    About Safe Sandy's

The founder of Safe at Sandy's Animal Rescue, with her two children and three black lab's.

    Our Mission

Safe at Sandy’s is dedicated to giving vulnerable dogs the second chance they deserve — through training, compassion, and a commitment to lifelong placement success.

We believe that every dog has potential, and with the right tools, even the most overlooked shelter dog can thrive. By focusing on training and behavior support from day one, we’re helping animals build confidence and become more adoptable — and ultimately more successful in their forever homes.

    Why we exist.

Safe at Sandy's was born from lived experience.

After nearly having to surrender her own beloved dogs, our founder knew something had to change - not just for her, but for countless others who love their pets deeply yet struggle to keep them.

With the support of her grandma, the idea for this rescue took root. Safe at Sandy's is a tribute to her and the space she always provided, as well as a promise to extend that same care to the animals and families who need it most.

    KEEPING DOG'S & FAMILIES TOGETHER

Better Dogs. Stronger Families. Fewer Returns

Every year, thousands of dogs in Washington end up in already overcrowded shelters.

Too many never find their way out.

    Here’s the reality:

    • 30% of dogs are surrendered because of behavior challenges.

    • Another 25–30% are surrendered because of housing issues, like rental restrictions or moving.

    • Many of these dogs get adopted — only to be returned because the same problems were never addressed.

This cycle is hard on dogs, heartbreaking for families, and costly for shelters, which spend hundreds of dollars per dog just to house and care for them during their stay.

    We Have the Solution

What if we could give shelter dogs the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their next home?
What if we could help families feel supported to keep their beloved pets?
What if we could reduce shelter crowding — and give more dogs a real second chance?

    That’s our vision.

By bringing certified-level training and outreach directly to shelters, we can help dogs become more adoptable, stay adopted longer, and ease the burden on local shelters.

We’re just getting started — and the need has never been greater.

    Where were heading.

Better Dogs. Stronger Families. Fewer Returns

    Where were heading.

We're starting with what we can do now:

    • Enrolling in a professional dog training certification program

    • Volunteering with local shelters

    • Working directly with dogs to build social skills and training for success

This hands-on foundation will grow into a full rescue and sanctuary. The long-term vision includes offering affordable behavior consults, a select shelter-to-service dog program, and of course space for our feline friends.

    See you soon!

Safe at Sandy’s is building more than a rescue —we’re raising funds to open a physical space where animals can experience that same sense of safety, healing, and unconditional care that our founders grandma Sandy gave her

While we work toward that goal, we remain focused on helping local shelter pets find loving homes and expanding our skills to support their journey. Every contribution brings us closer to opening the doors to Sandy’s — where safety starts, and second chances begin.
